Lower Your Utility Bills
The modern home uses energy in many forms: natural gas, heating oil, electricity, wood stove, passive solar and more. Hometron is committing our focus on several key forms of energy and their efficient use in the home.
Your utility bill can be reduced tremendously! According to Energy Star, the average household spends more than $1900 a year on energy costs, and about half of that is just towards heating and cooling. By using a smart thermostat, you’ll be able to maintain a constant home temperature while also reducing your utility bill. Or you could have a motion detector added, to connect with the smart thermostat, then when someone comes in the room, it can be programmed to turn on.
Smart Lighting is also a way to save costs. The US Energy Admin. says lighting makes up 11% of the total electricity used by US households. You can reduce energy consumption by using occupancy sensors which also detect motion and will turn lights on when a person comes into a room. Likewise, when they leave the room, the lights will automatically turn off.
Smart Power Strips have advantages over traditional power strips, which are known to deplete energy just by being in ‘standby mode’. According to Energy.gov, traditional power strips can easily increase your energy bill by 10%. Smart power strips can sense when individual components are turned off and by doing so will not send electricity to these plugged-in components. There are even smart power strips with motion sensors that will turn off power to the plugged-in devices if motion is no longer detected after 30 minutes
